The underground railroad was not a network of iron rails or underground tunnels, but was a network everyday people that risked everything to give guidance, direction, and motivation for African Americans escaping to the North.
 One of these people selfless people was Thomas Garrett. Thomas Garrett was not a man of voice but a man of action. He helped change the course of history and provided slaves the opportunity for freedom.
